Welcome from our Headteachers

A unique Catholic school:

There is no Catholic school like St Michael’s anywhere in the country.  It is one school across two sites and two phases of operation.  The High Wycombe site is home to a primary school and one of our two secondary schools. The Aylesbury site is home to another secondary school.

The school sites are a significant distance from one another and it is for that reason that we have worked in recent years to establish each school with its own identity as part of the single school that is St Michael’s Catholic School.  Three schools in one.

The leadership structure of our school reflects the different needs of each site.  We believe that great Catholic schools require great Headteachers who can be present on site each and every day.  It is for this reason that we have a Headteacher for each site:

When you visit St Michael’s Primary, you will enter a warm, caring and vibrant environment which rings with the sound of happy, enthusiastic and motivated young learners. Pupils benefit from a broad curriculum with outstanding teaching and learning in all subject areas, where a love of learning is developed and celebrated, and self-esteem, confidence and fortitude are fostered.

Building strong foundations in the Catholic faith, each pupil is taught to grow and develop their God-given talents and challenged to achieve their best. We nurture and recognise every pupil as an individual with limitless potential. St Michael’s Primary pupils are eloquent, confident and learned young people who are compassionate, loving and sincere towards others and the world around them.

We work closely with St Michael’s Secondary which results in a seamless transition for our Year 6 pupils who choose to progress to the senior school and all the Primary pupils benefit from access to the Secondary facilities.

I am very proud to lead the Primary phase and of the teachers, but most importantly of the pupils. I hope you enjoy discovering more about St Michael’s Primary on these pages, and please get in touch to arrange a visit or to ask for further information.

Head of School, High Wycombe Secondary

Welcome to St Michael’s, Aylesbury. As the newest member of our family of schools, we have been able to mirror the mission of our schools in High Wycombe in ensuring that every child who joins us is welcomed, feels a deep sense of warmth and belonging, and is nurtured and challenged to make their most of their God-given talents so that there is no limit to what they can achieve.

Each day in school, our teachers and teaching professionals walk alongside our children on their educational journey as they prepare for an exciting but volatile world. We believe that each pupil can be an agent of change that society craves by inspiring others through their actions and words as modelled by the disciples. Our pupil virtues spell out what this will look like so that when it comes to making and communicating decisions that impact on others, particularly the most vulnerable, our youngsters will be able to do so with sincerity, humility and eloquence.

Our curriculum fosters a curiosity and sense of awe and wonder at our beautiful world. In striving for excellence, we are committed to consistent exceptional teaching which rewards but also challenges pupils when learning is tough so that they have the courage and fortitude to overcome the challenges that our ever-changing world presents. In order to achieve this, we are blessed with a modern, inclusive, well-resourced learning environment that supports curriculum delivery both during lessons as well as through our extensive programme of extracurricular and enrichment activities. In addition to this our exceptional pastoral care ensures that all pupils are happy and can thrive at St Michael’s.

Our pupils and staff look forward to welcoming you into the school for our forthcoming open events.

Working with your headteacher:

The governors of the school have determined that each Headteacher has the authority to lead the school on their site in accordance with the legal framework for school leadership and governance.  Each of the Headteachers report directly to the Governing Body and have the full statutory powers and responsibilities associated with the role.  In matters of discipline, complaints or any other issue for each school site, it is the Headteacher of the site who has delegated responsibility and authority.  The Executive Headteacher supports the Governing Body in assuring the quality in each school and in promoting collaboration, but is not a person to whom students, staff, parents / carers or members of the community can appeal.
